软件学院成立于2002年1月，是国家首批35所示范性软件学院之一，也是全国师范院校中唯一获准成立的示范性软件学院。中国科学院院士何积丰教授任院长，周巢尘院士任名誉院长。
学院秉承“以学生为中心、以市场为导向、以创新求发展”的办学理念，坚持走办学国际化、运作市场化、产学研一体化的特色之路，培养高层次、实用型、复合型、国际化软件人才。
学院下设“三系三所”即软件工程、嵌入式系统、数字娱乐三个系和计算机理论研究所、海量计算研究所、嵌入式系统研究所，拥有上海市“高可信计算”重点实验室和教育部“软硬件协同设计技术与应用”工程研究中心等研究机构；“计算机软件与理论”为上海市重点学科；学校支持软件学院进行“高可信计算985科技创新平台”建设。学院现有本科生805名，研究生815名，毕业生深受社会青睐，就业率与薪资水平名列学校前茅。
经国家外国专家局批准，国家软件人才国际培训基地(上海)、国家对日软件人才培训基地也均在我院落户。
学院发展迅速，拥有强大的师资队伍。学院教职工人数达100余名：拥有中国科学院院士2名，国家杰青2名，国家新世纪百千万人才工程国家级人选1名，教育部“跨世纪人才培养计划入选者”1名，教育部长江学者特聘教授1名，上海市曙光学者2名，上海市优秀学科带头人1名，上海市科技启明星3名，上海市浦江人才1名，拥有副高及以上高级专业技术职称教师达40余名，拥有海内外著名高校兼职教授7名。
2009年学院主持和参与的科研项目共计68项，其中，新增项目30项，涵盖973、863、国家自然科学基金委等重点项目，在研经费总额达3000万。
Introduction:
Software Engineering Institute of East China Normal University (SEI/ECNU) was established as one of the first 36 pilot software schools in China. Professor Jifeng He, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the dean of the institue, who worked at Oxford University and the United Nations University International Institute for Software Technology for over 20 years. SEI/ECNU offers BSc in Software Engineering, MSc and PhD in Computer Science. In order to reach to the international level, the Bilingual teaching style has been applied; i.e., the mixture of English and Chinese. SEI/ECNU also focuses on research. It holds many research grants supported by Chinese government, including 863 and 973 projects. Currently, the Institute is carrying out the construction of 985 innovative platform in the area of highly dependable computing.
